CES 2026 has just come to a close, and one thing is clear: This is the year that AI leaps off our monitors and into the physical world at scale. The future of physical AI and humanoid robotics is bright thanks to major announcements spanning the entire technology stack and the broader ecosystem. At the foundation of this push are big SoC players, such as Qualcomm, AMD, Nvidia, and Intel, which unveiled new hardware and software platforms designed to enable large-scale deployment of AI in physical systems. As a result, robots are beginning to transition from research demonstrations to commercial products ready for real-world use。www.eic.net.cn
A common theme at CES this year was the emergence of solutions designed specifically for physical AI, with a focus on enabling machines to possess reason and perceive the world.
Qualcomm launched its Dragonwing IQ10, powered by its Oryon 18-core CPU, which the company says delivers more than 5× the CPU performance of the previous generation. The IQ10 is also equipped with an Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU, allowing for on-device AI and reducing latency—an essential requirement for robots that must react to their environment in real time。
Nvidia announced major updates to its Open Model Universe, with enhancements to Cosmos and Isaac GR00T, along with the introduction of its Alpamayo family of open AI models, simulation tools, and datasets aiming to increase the development of autonomous vehicles, showcasing how physical AI developments are not limited to the production of humanoid robotics。
AMD unveiled a new line of AI embedded processors, with the P100 and X100 series aimed at advancing autonomous systems. Additionally, Intel unveiled its Core Ultra Series 3 processors, which are said to offer throughput gains that enable physical AI models to handle more complex tasks。
As many industry leaders place a strong emphasis on advancing physical AI, robotics development has accelerated noticeably. During AMD’s opening keynote, Italian startup Generative Bionics unveiled GENE.01, its autonomous humanoid robot concept。
Powered by AMD’s new AI embedded processors and equipped with full-body tactile skin, GENE.01 can process information from physical touch, allowing for more human-like, optimized, and efficient movement and actions, the company said。
Generative Bionics announced its demo-based industrial roadmap, aiming for commercial deployment in industrial settings in the near future。
Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 processors are also being used to power the computational ability of RoBee, a humanoid robot developed by Italian company Oversonic Robotics. With Intel’s new line of processors, RoBee can perform local on-device processing, enabling real-time operations without the latency of sending data to and from the cloud, companies claimed. Fast processing and precise movement are essential for RoBee, as it was designed to assist patients with neurological conditions in medical settings。
Bern, Switzerland-based startup LEM Surgical said it is also making use of Nvidia’s Isaac and Cosmos models to train autonomous arms for its Dynamis surgical robot。
The increased focus on robotics and physical AI points to a promising future for fully autonomous systems in everyday life. Many companies are at the final stages of development before deploying their products for use at both an industrial and commercial level. The implementation of these robots will fundamentally change the way humans live and work, providing support in a wide range of areas—from medical care and personal assistance to hazardous tasks, such as handling radioactive materials—greatly reducing work-related injuries and fatalities。
In the next few years, autonomous robots will be a common aspect of life. Their capabilities will continue to advance rapidly, with robots eventually able to sense human emotions through facial and body expressions. This ability will enhance human-robot interactions and the robots’ effectiveness in fields like healthcare where interpreting a patient’s emotional state is an important aspect。
